Northfield service notes: Waste Management pickups resume; veterans banner orders paused pending durability check

Service Department Superintendent Jason Walters reported at the May 27 council meeting that Waste Management has resumed normal pickup of bulk and additional items and that the department has received many compliments about the Veterans Banners program. Walters thanked Councilmember Renell Noack for spearheading the banners effort.

Councilmember Gary Vojtush described a separate incident in which he said a Waste Management mechanical arm dropped most of his garbage onto the street and treelawn; when he asked the driver to pick it up, Vojtush said the driver refused and used rude and profane language. Vojtush said he reported the incident to Waste Management supervisors and is awaiting their response. Councilmember Jenn Domzalski said her street has experienced similar issues with loose garbage.

On community programming, Ms. Noack said the village stopped taking new Veterans Banner orders for this year so staff can assess whether the vendor's banners will hold up and be reusable next season; the village will reassess in the fall and then reopen orders if appropriate. No formal vote was taken on the Veteran Banner program pause.

Ms. Noack also reported that during Memorial Day weekend she observed many bare patches in the cemetery and asked when the Cemetery Board plans to replant grass. Mayor Nehez said he would find out and report back.
