Bourne School Committee reappoints leadership, welcomes student member and sets two-year goals

Emily Berry was confirmed as chair of the Bourne School Committee on Sept. 11, with Donel Beals named vice chair and Kerrie Scofield secretary after a motion by Kendellynn Gagne and a second from Kathleen Quintal. The voice vote passed unanimously, 6–0–0.
Berry introduced Addison Dion as the committee’s Student Representative for the 2024–25 school year. The chair also presented the 2024 Canalmen Excellence Award to John Kelsch, who recounted rescuing a driver from a burning car; Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou praised Kelsch’s actions.
The committee adopted two stated goals for 2024–25: increasing community engagement and undertaking strategic planning for the district’s future. Chair Berry also announced subcommittee assignments for curriculum, policy, budget and facilities, student advisory, technology liaisons and other roles intended to distribute oversight among members.
The leadership changes and subcommittee assignments set the committee’s organizational priorities for the year and allocate responsibility for ongoing district work, including strategic planning led by an outside consultant the district has engaged. The committee’s procedural votes were unanimous and there were no recorded opposing votes.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence in remembrance of Sept. 11. The session concluded with a roll-call vote to adjourn at 8:40 p.m.
