NECCOG elects officers at 30th annual meeting; departing members and staff honored

At its Dec. 15, 2017 annual meeting, the Northeastern Connecticut Council of Governments elected a slate of officers, presented resolutions honoring nine departing members, recognized staff, and heard a keynote address from R. Nelson “Oz” Griebel about state challenges.
The Northeastern Connecticut Council of Governments held its 30th annual meeting on Dec. 15, 2017, electing a slate of officers and honoring outgoing members and staff. Chair Rick Ives opened the meeting at noon, led the Pledge of Allegiance and summarized the council’s work over the previous year.
The council presented resolutions of thanks to nine members who were not returning: Craig Baldwin of Pomfret, David Griffiths of Killingly, Roy Piper of Canterbury, Bob Sirpenski of Voluntown, Andy Goodhall of Union, Art Brodeur of Eastford, Tony Falzarano of Putnam, Paul Sweet of Plainfield and Allan Walker of Woodstock. Paul Sweet, CEO of Plainfield, and Roy Piper, CEO of Canterbury, each spoke to thank their fellow CEOs and NECCOG for their support.
Chair Ives also recognized NECCOG staff for their work, naming Maureen Adams (Finance Director), Katie Britt (Administrative Assistant), Jim Larkin (Associate Director), Hoween Flexer (Director of Regional Services), Syl Pauley (Regional Engineer), Douglas Lary (Regional Elections Monitor), Kristian Hernandez (Animal Services Director), Jennifer Hutchins (Animal Services Administrative Assistant), Dianne Collette (Animal Services Officer), Rita Aguiar (Animal Services Officer), Janis Smith (Animal Services Officer), Mellisa Frink (Kennel Maintainer), George Keeling (Animal Services Officer) and June Ducios (Transit Dispatcher).
NECCOG’s legislative delegation presented a General Assembly proclamation recognizing the organization’s 30 years of regional service.
The meeting’s keynote speaker, R. Nelson “Oz” Griebel, addressed attendees about challenges confronting the state and outlined several approaches he believes could help address those challenges.
Nominations for the council’s officers produced the following slate: Rick Ives, Chair (Brooklyn), second term; Dan Syme, Vice Chair (Scotland), second term; Ken Beausoleil, Secretary (Thompson), first term; Tracy Hanson, Treasurer (Voluntown), first term; and Maureen Nicholson, At-Large (Pomfret), first term. On a motion by Vice Chair Dan Syme and a second from Ken Beausoleil, the nominations were accepted, nominations were closed, and the slate was elected unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 2:22 p.m.
