Northfield schedules Fire & Safety meeting to review fire station plans; council weighs used playground equipment offer

Councilmember Renell Noack said on Jan. 8 that Chief Buss asked the fire station project architect, Baker Bednar Snyder, to meet with Council before the next regular meeting to review plans. Noack and Nick Magistrelli said they would aim to put the project out to bid at the Jan. 22 meeting. Noack moved and Magistrelli seconded a motion to schedule a Fire & Safety Committee meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. to meet with the architect; the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, Councilmember Gary Vojtush reported an offer from the Parma Schools for playground equipment available for bid due to a school closure. Vojtush said Parma offered a favorable deal but that the Village would be responsible for tearing down and transporting the equipment at its expense; Service Director Jason Walters (absent) had told Vojtush it sounded worth investigating.
No formal procurement decision was made at the Jan. 8 meeting. The council also discussed whether to authorize iPads for councilmembers in place of ordinance books; Finance Director Potvin said she would attempt to include iPads in the 2020 budget.
Next steps: Fire & Safety Committee will meet Jan. 22 to review fire station plans with the architect; council staff will investigate the Parma playground equipment offer and report back.
