American Red Cross urges donors; Northfield honors long‑time firefighter Nick Latonia

Ally Varley of the American Red Cross urged Northfield residents at the Feb. 12 council meeting to donate blood to address an ongoing shortage. Varley said the Red Cross and the American Cancer Society are partnering to encourage donors and noted a blood drive scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
Council also recognized longtime firefighter Nick Latonia with a proclamation marking his retirement after 16 years of service. Latonia accepted a plaque from his colleagues and said, “Thank you Northfield Village for letting me be part of this family. It’s hard to leave. I am always with you. Be safe and thank you.”
The meeting included other community announcements, including recreation events for Easter and a reminder from Mayor Jesse Nehez to check the village website for updates. No formal council action was required for the Red Cross presentation or the retirement proclamation.
