Dollar General project moves forward; Planning Commission to review plat March 18

The Village of Northfield’s planned Dollar General development advanced at the March 11 council meeting after the village engineer reported final plans are approved and permitting is under way.
Engineer Rich Wasosky told council he approved the consolidation plat and legal description and that the developer is in the process of obtaining building permits from Summit County. A Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. to review the plat; if the commission approves it, council could take action the following week and the plat would then be signed and recorded.
Wasosky also reported the Rt. 8 traffic signal project is nearly complete but noted a camera in front of the Fire Department and street signs on the mast arms have not yet been installed. He said he sent a message to the contractor about the signage delays.
The engineering report tied the development update to other ongoing items, including annual stormwater reporting required by Summit County and an unrelated NEORSD accounting question about a community cost‑share for the Houghton Road project. Council did not take formal action on the Dollar General plat at the March 11 meeting; the issue is scheduled for the Planning Commission on March 18.
