Stockbridge council approves hires, water-rate study, police-resolution and park cameras

The Village of Stockbridge Council approved a series of administrative and operational measures at its Oct. 7, 2024 regular meeting, including personnel, contracts, budgeting and public-safety items.
Council voted to pay outstanding bills totaling $200,897.55 and approved an adjustment to a contractor quote from Heeney and Sons, raising the contract price from $9,500 to $11,500 to reflect corrected project requirements. The council then moved on to new business and approved the hiring of Tina Parks as Administrative Assistant at $15.00 per hour during a 90-day probationary period, increasing to $17.00 per hour upon successful completion of probation.
The council authorized the Village to enter a contract with Andy Campbell to complete a water-rate study analysis. Council members approved a resolution empowering the Police Chief to explore expanding the Village police department into an independent police authority in partnership with Stockbridge Township and to pursue funding through a township millage to be voted by township residents.
On economic-development and public-safety measures, the council amended the Stockbridge Downtown Development Authority (SDDA) 2024/2025 budget and adopted a resolution confirming the final tax-capture settlement between the Village and the SDDA for the years 2009 through 2023. The council also approved purchase of security cameras for Veterans Memorial Park at a total cost of $16,725, with the SDDA contributing $10,000 toward the purchase.
Under new business the council also approved the use of Village Hall by the Stockbridge Chamber of Commerce at no cost. Separately, the council directed the Village attorney to draft a resolution for environmental consulting with Trustee Powers-Taylor’s company, MPT EHS, LLC; the motion to authorize drafting that resolution passed unanimously.
Public comment included reports that the meeting microphones were not working and a remark about vandalism at Veterans Memorial Park. The council offered brief member thanks and the Village attorney, Gormley, thanked departing member Mullins for his service. The council listed several upcoming meetings through December 2024 and adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
Actions at the meeting were passed by roll call votes recorded in the minutes; in each recorded roll call the five listed members (Mullins, Cattell, Morehouse, Powers-Taylor and Ogden) voted in the affirmative and two members (Fairbotham and Howlett) were recorded as absent.
