Collier school board reviews first‑read revisions to multiple policies; second readings scheduled next month

At its April 15 work session, the Collier County District School Board reviewed first‑read revisions to a large packet of school board policies presented by Pat Corbett, identified in the record as executive director of Nyala. Board member Kelly Mason raised a consistency point regarding the abbreviation for the Florida Safe Schools Assessment Tool; the transcript records the suggestion (transcript used “SAT”) and indicates staff will align abbreviations for consistency.
One public commenter, Andrea Moran Vasquez, addressed the smoke- and tobacco-free environment policy (5.512) during the public comment period. The board did not adopt any policies at the session; staff noted the policies will return for a second reading next month.
