Suttons Bay manager reports new hires, boater-restroom project advances; residents note Elm Street speed sign

Village Manager Larrea told the Village of Suttons Bay Village Council on May 18 that the village has filled two part-time positions and that a boater service and public restroom project has moved to the next phase.
Larrea said the village hired Grace Periard to replace Maryann Korson in a part-time role and also hired Tom Bumgardner on a part-time basis to work on vehicles. Larrea also said the boater service and public restroom project has advanced to the bidding stage and that staff are seeking several grant opportunities to support the work.
During the meeting's "Good of the Order," Councilmember Perkins asked that Elm Street be added to the General Service Committee agenda for further discussion. Councilmember Smith noted a 25 mph-ahead sign on Elm Street. In public comment, Deputy Newman said the LCSD placed a speed-monitoring sign at Elm and Herman Road last week. Resident Bill Crackel added that a 25 mph sign is positioned so that "as soon as you see it you are at the Village limits," a placement he suggested reduces its visibility.
The manager's staffing and project updates were recorded in written reports presented at the meeting; no funding breakdown for the boater service/public restroom project was included in the minutes.
