City Attorney Bob Stuyvesant informed the Pleasantville City Council on April 21 that the city has received a change of title transferring the Fenton property to municipal ownership. He said a property tax notice had been sent to City Clerk Rachel Reed, but taxes will be abated because the county attorney had not yet provided the treasurer the order stating the city takes title free and clear.
Stuyvesant also reported he received a settlement agreement from Adkins’ attorney and forwarded it to the county attorney and Clerk Reed for council review. The county civil attorney proposed amendments to the agreement; Stuyvesant said after Adkins’ attorney reviews those amendments the county will discuss and vote. The council voted to table the city’s action on the settlement agreement and mutual release with Adkins Specialized Carriers, LLC; the tabled motion passed unanimously. Stuyvesant said the city may need a special meeting to act after the county completes its review.
In a separate matter, Stuyvesant reported he received an email from the Iowa Public Information Board's attorney confirming that the information the city provided about former Officer Good was adequate; the city is awaiting the newspaper's attorney to conclude matters.
