Sherman Senior Center building committee approves RFP, sets timeline for bids and selection

The Sherman Senior Center Building Committee approved a request for proposals and a timetable for selecting a contractor at its June 9, 2026 meeting.

Chairperson Joan Laucius led the discussion that established key dates: the RFP will be issued on Friday, June 12; bidders may submit questions through July 1, with answers due by July 10; bids must be received by noon on July 17; the committee will notify three finalists on July 22 and schedule interviews thereafter; and the winning bidder will be notified on Aug. 14 at noon, after a Special Meeting of the Board of Selectmen to approve the selection.

Don Lowe, acting as clerk, said the committee would publicize the RFP in the Town Tribune (week of the June 18 edition for two weeks), post it on the state procurement website, and place it immediately on the Sherman town website with directions for bidders.

Bob Ostrosky moved “to approve the RFP as shared by Don Lowe First Selectman with dates revised as aligned at tonight’s meeting.” Jim Best seconded; the motion passed unanimously, recorded in the minutes as approval of the RFP and schedule.

According to the committee’s schedule, a Special Meeting on July 7 is planned to prepare materials and a Special Meeting on July 21 will be used to decide finalists. Interviews of finalists will follow the July 22 notifications; final selection and public notice of the winning bid are planned for Aug. 14 pending Board of Selectmen approval.

Minutes list the committee members present and record the vote as unanimous; the minutes do not provide an itemized roll-call of individual votes.
