Sherman Board of Selectmen meets May 28: EMS shortfall flagged, Veterans Field repairs done, dock proposal needs public input

At the Board of Selectmen meeting on May 28, Business Manager Liz LaVia told members that contracted EMS services are tracking above budget and will require an additional $50,000 by the end of the year; she said Park and Rec will also need further funding and that formal requests will be made in late June.
The board approved procedural business including minutes approvals: motions to approve the April 23, April 13 (budget workshop) and May 12 (budget workshop) minutes were moved by First Selectman Don Lowe, seconded by Selectman Bob Ostrosky and recorded as unanimous. The board also approved a tax refund of $843.67 (motion by Don Lowe, seconded by Bob Ostrosky; recorded unanimous). Don Lowe moved to adjourn at 8:01 PM and Selectman Bob Ostrosky seconded.
Other updates: Don Lowe read a message from Fire Chief Chris Fuchs reporting that the volunteer department logged 137 emergency calls in May and that crews trained on psychiatric emergency response and new mapping software. Public Works Supervisor Kris Fazzone reported Memorial Day preparations, tree work and completed chip sealing on Chimney Hill, Leach Hollow and Wauweehoo. Nelson Fall completed bathroom repairs at Veterans Field under budget. The board discussed moving a dock to the south side of Town Beach after a meeting with FirstLight and said it will seek more public input from residents and Park and Rec before deciding.
Items deferred: HRRA discussion and Mallory Town Hall security planning were moved to the June meeting so Selectman Joel Bruzinski can participate. The Sherman Senior Center building committee is delayed after the project lost its architect and must issue a new RFP. The Sherman Playhouse board will develop a power-upgrade plan and present it when ready.
