School leaders presented the 2025 Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA/SBAC) results and related district data strategies at the Oct. 20 meeting.
Chris Pickett and Ray Bernier reviewed cohort charts and comparative District Reference Group (DRG) data. The presentation showed Preston’s Performance Indexes as follows: Math 64.5, ELA 70.2 and Science 72. Slides compared Preston to peer districts and the state average and highlighted grade‑level trends across 2021–2025.
The presenters emphasized using multiple data sources—DIBELS, STAR, OLSAT and interim assessments—to drive instruction, target small‑group supports and adjust pacing. The presentation also recommended continued use of the district’s literacy and math programs and regular interim assessment blocks to monitor progress.
Board members and administrators noted strengths—historically high third‑grade scores and solid science results—and areas for growth, such as select middle‑grade math cohorts. The presentation materials were retained as part of the meeting record for further review.
What happens next: the district will continue interim assessments, monitor cohorts identified for targeted intervention and return to the Board with progress updates.
