A parent and community member, Jill Keith, submitted public comment by email to the Preston Curriculum Committee on Feb. 28, asking the committee to provide virtual access to Curriculum Committee meetings, to clarify the district’s high-ability/gifted screening and identification procedures, and to consider the Schoolwide Enrichment Model for the district professional learning plan.
In her email, Keith asked, “Is it possible to provide a virtual option for the Curriculum Committee meetings? Given they've been scheduled during traditional work hours, parents and staff might be able to participate virtually.” She also asked, “What are Preston's high ability/gifted screening and identification procedures? I saw the topic was raised during the November Curriculum Committee Meeting, but it's not on today's agenda.” Keith proposed that the district “consider a proposal of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model for your Professional Learning Plan,” and attached two files described in the minutes as Preston GT identification rate history and Connecticut GT rates for 2025.
The minutes record that Gloria Homiski forwarded Keith’s public comment to the committee and that a printed copy would be provided at the meeting. The minutes do not record a committee response to these requests or any change to meeting access, screening procedures, or professional learning plans.
