Aliceville council signs on to Alabama Economic Development Academy; approves board appointments

Aliceville will participate in the Alabama Economic Development Academy after the council approved a resolution under new business. The Chair said the training program, run through the League of Municipalities, will offer guidance on community improvements and economic development; the Chair reported the city’s application was accepted and that course dates will be shared when available.
The Chair said several council members — including Councilman Gillum and others — indicated they would participate, and he included Mr. Sanders and Charlie W. as designated participants. "I filled out the application after Mr. speaking with Mr aop ... he said that it would be beneficial," the Chair said, summarizing the recommendation from an earlier presenter identified in the packet as Mr. Johnny.
In the same meeting the council approved two personnel actions. The council voted to appoint Mr. Oliver (described as an attorney and long-time community business owner and recent school system retiree) to the Industrial Development Board. The council also reappointed Herbert Lavender to the Housing Authority board; Lavender was not present but the reappointment was approved.
Next steps: staff will circulate Academy dates to participants and update council records for the board appointments.
