Health inspector intensifies food and septic checks; Formosa Market opening delayed

Health Inspector Shaun Jeffery told the Sudbury Board of Health on Dec. 10 that septic inspections and soil testing are ongoing, with two failed inspections at an address on Massasoit requiring corrections. He said he has prioritized inspections at day-care and long-term care facilities to meet state year-end requirements and has been accompanied by a health intern on larger food-establishment inspections. Jeffery identified Ooishi Too (sushi) as a high-risk establishment and said Shaw’s required multiple re-inspections.
Health Director Vivian Zeng said she conducted an FDA food-safety overview Dec. 2 at the Fairbank Community Center — an event required to retain FDA grant funding — and reminded the board that several grants (FDA, Public Health Excellence Grant, Opioid Substance Use Regional Program) will require mandatory expenditure and activity reports to the state at the end of the month.
Zeng reported that Formosa Market’s opening has been delayed because the owners revised building plans to add food-prep areas, changing permitting and Health Department approvals. She also said Sudbury Farms’ produce cooler and lighting are nearly ready and that pool and community-center kitchen inspections are nearing completion. On housing, Zeng said turnover at Longfellow Glen in recent months has produced a surge in housing complaints and that the department is working with property management and Wingate to resolve outstanding issues.
Jeffery noted his first anniversary with the Health Department will be later this month.
