Chariton school board approves 2025–26 calendar, handbooks, curriculum purchases and construction payment

At its May 12 meeting the Chariton Community School District board approved the 2025–26 school calendar, teacher and staff handbooks, curriculum purchases totaling $127,533.80, multiple contracts and a $32,459.72 pay application for middle school stormwater work; all motions passed 4–0.
At a regular meeting May 12 in the administration office board room, the Chariton Community School District board voted 4–0 to approve a slate of administrative and operational items for the 2025–26 school year.
Board member Jarid Howell moved to approve the graduates of the Class of 2025; board member Dustin Shivvers seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The board also approved participation in the Summer Food Program for 2025 and gave final approval to the 2025–26 school calendar after a final reading.
The board approved the Certified Teacher Handbook and the Support Staff Handbook. It accepted vendor bids for milk and bread for the 2025–26 school year (milk: A&E; bread: Bimbo Bakeries) and approved a contract with Timberline Billing Service. The board approved the second reading of policies 406–414 and the first reading of policies 506.4, 706.3, 711.8 and 804.5.
The board approved a 2025–26 service agreement with the Great Prairie AEA and authorized two curriculum purchases: language arts and literacy resources for $108,119.68 and math resources for $19,414.12, a combined total of $127,533.80.
Administrators’ compensation was also addressed: the board approved a 3% salary increase for administrative/district office staff, contingent on the governor signing a 2–2.25% SSA increase as noted during the meeting.
On capital work, the board adopted a resolution for final acceptance and closing of final project costs for the middle school Settlement Mitigation—Storm Water & Gutter Improvement Project and approved Pay Application No. 8 to Joiner Construction in the amount of $32,459.72.
All motions listed above were moved, seconded and recorded as "Motion carried 4-0" in the meeting minutes. The minutes do not record dissenting or abstaining votes.
The board also approved routine consent items including minutes from April 14 and April 21, building rentals, resignations and multiple personnel contracts and letters of intent listed on the consent agenda.
