Pleasant Grove credits churches and foundations after Giving Tree meets $50,000 goal

Dika Haj, executive administrative assistant to Mayor Yolanda W. Lawson, told the council that New Bethlehem Baptist Church helped the city reach a $50,000 goal and that the church returned $10,000 to the city to support distribution. Haj presented certificates of appreciation to New Bethlehem Baptist Church, Be Kind Birmingham and the James Bradberry IV Foundation.
Representatives said the Bradberry foundation contributed $10,000 in addition to donated toys and gift cards. The mayor noted the city’s distribution efforts delivered meals and direct assistance to families; Haj said the program distributed a little over $20,000 to Pleasant Grove residents during the holiday season.
Council members and the mayor recognized staff and volunteers, including public works employees who helped load and unload donations. The mayor said the Giving Tree will be an annual initiative and encouraged broader community participation next year.
