Historic Districts Commission approves fence and cemetery sign finish, accepts withdrawal and continues several applications

The Sudbury Historic Districts Commission on Feb. 5 approved a cedar post-and-rail fence at 95 Peakam Road, accepted a withdrawal for a separate window-replacement application, approved the finish for an entrance sign at the Revolutionary War Cemetery ahead of the town’s 250th celebration, and continued several other certificate-of-appropriateness reviews to March 5 to allow applicants to submit additional documentation.
At 95 Peakam Road, applicants Prem Das and Nisha Thakrar proposed a two-rail cedar fence approximately 42 inches tall with interior galvanized mesh to contain dogs. Commissioner Taryn Trexler moved to approve the application as submitted; the roll-call vote was Trexler, Hagger, Iovanella, Noble — Aye. Commissioners recommended cedar posts and rails and confirmed the maximum height at roughly 42 inches.
The commission accepted a withdrawal without prejudice for Case 26-02 (72 Wayside Inn Road), which had sought replacement of 15 sash sets. The commission recorded acceptance of the withdrawal by motion and roll call.
Jan Costa reported that kiosks and stanchions for the Revolutionary War Cemetery are in production and that the work group had produced a proof for the entrance sign (black text on white matte laminate). Given budget and timing constraints tied to the May 16 town 250th celebration, the commission voted to approve the matte-laminate finish despite some reservations about laminate versus traditional applied-letter wooden signs.
Commissioners also handled several procedural and follow-up items: they approved the Jan. 8, 2026 minutes; asked the 230 Old Sudbury Road applicants to submit manufacturer specifications and color/finish samples for proposed doors (vendor options favored a six-panel raised style labeled “006” or a transitional style 002/440, with preference for smooth painted finishes); and requested a window-by-window inventory, photos, measured elevations and cost comparisons from Adelma Gillespie for 52 Concord Road before further consideration. Theo Bowne provided an Eagle Scout kiosk/sign update and was advised to include full dimensions, specifications and to use concrete footings with cast bracket anchors for post installations in his March application.
The commission adjourned at 10:11 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for March 5, 2026, when continued items are expected to return.
