Sudbury commission advances Hosmer House restoration projects, approves archivist support from historical society

The Sudbury Historical Commission advanced several Hosmer House restoration and collections-management steps at its Jan. 20 meeting, approving archivist support from the Sudbury Historical Society and moving forward with design and conservation planning.
Chair Chris Hagger reported the commission received three responses to the RFQ for Hosmer House envelope design — David King Architects, Architectural Preservation Studio and Socotech — and said three historic-structure reports (including a 1980 report) would be made available to commissioners and posted on the SHC website. Steven Greene volunteered to serve as docent coordinator and provided an update on recent open houses; the commission discussed purchasing copies of the book My Dear Girl by Helen Marie Casey for the house.
On the archivist procurement, the RFQ response from Francesco Buccella, Executive Director of the Sudbury Historical Society, was considered. Commissioners William Andreas and Steven Greene excused themselves from the discussion because of a possible conflict of interest; Mr. Hagger said Director of Planning and Development Adam Burney advised the two abstain from voting. The commission confirmed the concept of a steering committee to oversee the contract and voted to approve the Sudbury Historical Society to provide archivist support pending answers to questions raised during the meeting (approval recorded in the minutes).
Mr. Hagger said a $10,000 CPC threshold requires full public bidding for projects at or above that figure; below $10,000 an RFQ rather than a full bid is acceptable. The commission also reviewed preventive-conservation needs: Mr. Hagger said the scope follows Northeast Document Conservation Center specifications, and Commissioners Wallace and Greenstein agreed to coordinate purchase of light-control shades. The commission discussed the Phase 5 report and agreed it should be posted on the SHC website and have a hard copy on display at the library.
The actions move several Hosmer House tasks from planning toward procurement and implementation; the archivist support offer from the Sudbury Historical Society was approved subject to clarifications requested by the commission.
