Sudbury sustainability panel approves $6,250 for updated floodplain maps to aid climate assessment

Sustainability Coordinator Eric Simms told the committee the BSC maps “offer more accurate and up‑to‑date data as compared to maps available from the federal government.” He asked ESC to vote to fund the purchase to advance the vulnerability assessment work.
Chair Rami Alwan moved the funding motion, reading the proposal as: "To additionally fund our ongoing efforts with the climate change vulnerability assessment for an additional $6,250." Mary K. Farris seconded the motion. The committee voted 7–0 in favor.
The maps are intended to provide more precise flood‑plain information for the town’s resilience planning and for work associated with the Green Communities application and MVP 2.0 resilience coaching that Simms is coordinating. The committee did not set a timeline for when the maps will be delivered to staff.
Next steps: staff will finalize the purchase and incorporate the maps into the Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment work plan; the item was recorded as approved and will be tracked by ESC.
