Sudbury ESC continues drafting mission and vision, plans Select Board briefing

Vice Chair Olga Faktorovich Allen summarized recent work on defining the Energy and Sustainability Committee’s mission and vision, including planned collateral (website content, a two-page summary, prioritization/funding criteria and metrics/KPIs). Members debated the scope of ESC’s role—whether it should include protecting natural resources or defer entirely to the Conservation Commission—and discussed tone and phrasing for the vision, comparing "Fight Climate Change," "Curb climate pollution," and "Adapt to adverse climate change."
Member Venk Gopal offered a definition of energy independence based on four pillars—decarbonization, decentralization, democratization and digitalization—that he said could guide the committee’s priorities. Olga outlined next steps to produce a more granular strategy and collateral for stakeholder briefings. Rami and Olga will meet with the Select Board to present ESC’s developing vision.
The work is preparatory; no final mission text or formal endorsement was adopted at the Jan. 13 meeting.
