Sudbury panel considers targeted air-quality sensors for school drop-off areas

Members of the Town of Sudbury Energy and Sustainability Committee discussed whether the town should install air-quality monitoring devices. John Keklak said the devices might be redundant because the National Weather Service and Wunderground already publish air-quality data, and suggested their use might be better limited to school science projects or Eagle Scout initiatives.
Vice Chair Olga Faktorovich Allen suggested deploying sensors at locations where parents drop off children to monitor idling-related pollution. Eric Simms said the Health Department had expressed interest; members agreed to hold joint discussions with Sudbury Public Schools and the Health Department to evaluate targeted deployment and uses.
No decision was made to purchase or install sensors at scale; Eric was assigned to begin communications with the Health Department and SPS to refine the proposal.
