Daggett County MBA approves $19,090 change order for Health Business & Community Center

The Daggett County Municipal Building Authority on Aug. 12 approved a construction change order for the Daggett County Health Business & Community Center totaling $19,090.05 and extending the contract by three days.

A presenter told the board the order responds to water encountered in excavation and requires additional substructure work and one extra foot in the elevator pit. "It is time sensitive. It is definitely the next step in work on the footing foundation and the base layer of structural fill that'll be laid in there," the presenter said, urging the board to allow work to continue while formal ratification is scheduled for the next meeting if needed.

A committee member moved to approve the change order and another member seconded. The Chair called the question and the motion passed by voice vote. The Chair said the increase will be charged to the project contingency line item in the budget.

Board members discussed possible offsets if savings materialize elsewhere in the structural-fill contract, but the presenter cautioned offsets may not fully cover the added cost. The presenter also noted the first load of the additional material arrived that day.

Separately, members agreed the discussion and consideration of change orders and construction change directives should be a standing item placed under policy and legislation on future MBA agendas so formal actions are taken in the appropriate section of the agenda.

The board did not identify any public commenters on the item. The MBA meeting adjourned at 09:52 a.m.
