Sudbury board OKs small second-floor sign for Italian Exclusive Vacations with specified placement

Members of the Sudbury Design Review Board voted unanimously Feb. 25 to approve a small directional sign for Italian Exclusive Vacations, which occupies a second-floor suite at 345C Boston Post Road.

Owner Luca Figliuolo and accounting manager Nicholas De Bari told the board they planned a 10-inch by 30-inch wall-mounted sign between parking openings, intended to help visitors locate the building entrance. Board members discussed placement options: Ark Pang recommended placing the sign higher, closer to the windows; Chair Susan Vollaro preferred placing the sign to the right of the door where other business panels exist, and Scott Utke noted the sign could be awkward above the existing light fixture. Vollaro suggested placing the sign under the first set of windows closest to the entrance; the applicant accepted that option.

At 2.1 square feet the sign conforms to town bylaws. Utke moved to approve the design and size as presented with mounting centered under the right-most set of windows and above the building’s horizontal datum; Pang seconded. The motion passed 3-0 (Vollaro-aye, Pang-aye, Utke-aye). Board staff said that if the applicant chooses a different location for the sign they would need to return for further review; reducing the sign size would not require another hearing.

The approval is intended to improve wayfinding for visitors to the second-floor office while keeping the sign within the town’s size limits.
