Sudbury COA and Goodnow Library outline outreach, kitchen plan and transportation updates

Goodnow Library Director Amy Stimac updated the Sudbury Council on Aging on Nov. 10 about current and new library initiatives intended to reach homebound and younger patrons. Stimac described programs such as book clubs and concerts, a 'Goodnow to Go' service for homebound patrons and planned 24/7 smart lockers for contactless pickup; she said the library is exploring collaborations with the COA on electronic resources and advanced care planning and is considering music partnerships to engage younger audiences.
Director Nickole Boardman outlined COA programming and operations: upcoming Thanksgiving and Veterans Day luncheons, attendance at the Massachusetts Councils on Aging (MCOA) conference by Boardman and staff member Jill, and continued planning for a Senior Center kitchen project. Boardman described the kitchen project steps—permits, equipment procurement and volunteer training—and said the center plans to begin with one meal per week while pursuing funding from Title III, grants and the Sudbury Foundation; staff are researching vendors used by other senior centers.
On transportation, the Transportation Committee reported progress on an Uber program and an Uber Emergency Rider Program, noted sign-up issues that were addressed at an Oct. 17 fair, and said committee members are exploring revival of the FISH volunteer driving program and vendor options for wheelchair transport.
The updates reflect ongoing efforts to expand services and access for older residents; the COA will pursue funding for the kitchen project and continue coordination with the library and transportation vendors.
