Aliceville’s City Council voted to accept a telecommunications franchise agreement at its Feb. 12 meeting, maintaining the arrangement under which local providers remit up to 6% of gross receipts to the city.
During discussion staff said federal law allows the city to collect up to 6% and recommended keeping the franchise fee at that maximum percentage. The council moved and the motion carried by voice vote.
The agreement will be reviewed per the city’s three-year franchise cycle; staff indicated the remittance applies to broadband and other telecommunications companies operating in the city.
