Ms. Kim Burns summarized a plan to retain approximately $15,000 remaining from the original 2004 CPC grant of $172,350 to cover maintenance work such as lichen and moss removal and repair of broken gravestones.
Ms. Burns said Ellen Neiterman, president of the Sudbury Historic Society, provided photographs documenting 63 gravestones in Mt. Washington and the Revolutionary War Cemeteries that need repair. Commissioners discussed a two‑part approach: spending the remaining 2004 grant funds on immediate needs and preparing a new CPC application to request additional money for prioritized restoration. Ms. Costa suggested hiring a historic cemetery consultant specialist to evaluate and set priorities.
Mr. Greene reported that information about the Wheeler Stone purchase order had been forwarded to James Goudie in the Select Board Office. The Commission discussed whether the focus should be restoration or cleaning; Ms. Burns said the priority would be repairing damaged headstones rather than cleaning alone.
