The Sudbury Historical Commission determined on March 10, 2026, that the residence at 317 Old Lancaster Road is historically significant and that a partial demolition plan must be submitted to the Commission before any demolition permit is issued. Chair Chris Hagger told commissioners the house “is a Greek revival‑style home built in 1851” and noted the property’s association with a former saw and grist mill.
The application was received on Feb. 18, 2026, and SHC staff conducted a site visit on Feb. 26, 2026. Owner Nikhil Bhosrekar said proposed work includes replacing a side door and indicated plans for changes to both the front and rear of the historic portion of the house; Mr. Hagger said those changes will require additional plans and a public hearing.
Mr. Hagger moved the motion under the Sudbury Demolition Delay Bylaw that the house is historically significant and that a partial demolition plan must be submitted prior to issuance of a demolition permit; Ms. Jan Costa seconded. The motion passed 7‑0 (Wallace, Hagger, Andreas, Costa, Durall, Greenstein, Burns voted aye).
The Commission’s determination triggers the Demolition Delay process and requires the applicant to supply more detailed plans for review. The Commission did not set a final approval for proposed alterations and indicated a public hearing will be scheduled to consider the detailed plans.
