Concord Cultural Council boosts event funding, awards Lantern Parade $500 and approves two new members

Hilary Taylor proposed continuing the council's Enhancement Funding for longstanding town events (Sidewalk Sale, Ag Day, Library Book Sale). Members agreed to increase the line from $2,000 in the last funding cycle to $3,000 this year and asked recipients to provide attendance data to align with Massachusetts Cultural Council reporting expectations.
Members discussed ways to engage local arts and business communities, including a forum organized with the local Chamber of Commerce; council guest and soon-to-be member Jack Megan said a grant pot would draw participants. The council reviewed plans for its annual grantees' reception, scheduled May 28, 2026, 5:45–8 p.m. at Wright Tavern, which will include a musical performance by grantee Sarah Whiney.
During the meeting the council discussed several prospective initiatives — a Lantern Parade on March 7, a temporary Creative Crosswalk for Gay Pride week and another Concord Block Party modeled on the 2025 event — and voted unanimously to award $500 to the Lantern Parade. Minutes record that Debby Page described her arts background and interest in joining the council; the council voted to approve Jack Megan and Laurie O'Neill as new members, and the minutes note the Select Board will formally approve those appointments at its next meeting.
The meeting also produced administrative assignments: Chair Rogers appointed Ed Bernard, Robert Gross and Leda Zimmerman to review vision and mission language, and Leda Zimmerman will follow up on grant-selection criteria. The meeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
