Sudbury subcommittee moves to recategorize Select Board policies, may recommend rescissions

At a virtual meeting on Oct. 4, 2024, the Sudbury Select Board's Policies and Procedures Subcommittee reviewed a color-coding system intended to produce a final list of Select Board policies.
Member Dan Carty outlined the subcommittee's process for turning "yellow" policies into either "gray" (redundant or not applicable) or "green" (ready for final list). He said the goal is to present a cleaned, finalized set of policies to the full Select Board and noted that some items may be operational and therefore managed by town administration rather than adopted as Select Board policy.
Town Manager Andy Sheehan recommended that the subcommittee rescind policies as necessary to make the current policy set clear. Member Carty said he will reference and mark policies in the review spreadsheet for recommendation to the full Board and will provide an update at the next Select Board meeting.
The discussion focused on clarifying which policies are governance-level versus administrative operations and on producing a concise, actionable list for the Select Board to consider. The subcommittee opened the meeting at 12:06 p.m. and scheduled follow-up work and reporting to the full Board.
