Chaplin Board approves minutes and financial statements, hears principal and superintendent reports

The Chaplin Board of Education met Oct. 8 in the Chaplin Elementary School Library, called to order at 6:32 PM by Chair Jaclyn Chancey. The board approved routine business items, heard administrative reports, and adjourned at 7:27 PM.
On motions recorded in the minutes, the board approved the Sept. 10, 2025 minutes after a motion by Victor Boomer with William Hooper seconding; Joseph Klar abstained and the motion passed (5 yes, 0 no, 1 abstain). The board then approved the September 2025 financial statements on a motion by Eugene Boomer, seconded by William Hooper; that motion passed unanimously.
Principal Kevin Chavez presented a report summarizing a recent data report, the district’s participation in the Eastern Connecticut Early Start Collaborative, upcoming professional development, field trips, revisions to the curricula calendar, and a note about the custodian position. Superintendent Andrew Skarzynski reported on updated laws affecting the district, a potential government shutdown, planning for next year’s calendar, grant opportunities, and noted a recent resignation and a recent hire.
There was no public comment during either the first or second audience for citizens. Committee reports were brief: the Policy and Negotiations Committees had not met, while the Central Office Committee reported it had met. William Hooper moved to adjourn at 7:27 PM; Joseph Klar seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
