Region 4 committee approves security purchases and records bond sale for JWMS project

At its Aug. 21 meeting the Region 4 John Winthrop Middle School Security Project Building Committee approved several expenditures to support the school addition and security upgrades.
Chair Rick Daniels presented Knox Company Invoice 1223666 for $535.00 for a KnoxBox procurement. The committee unanimously approved payment. Daniels then presented QA+M Invoice 17320 for $6,479.20 for construction-administration services through July; the invoice was described as within budget and was unanimously approved.
The committee reviewed three vendor quotes for Verkada camera hardware and related networking. Facilities Director Fred Gerber told the committee that CT Comp could still honor its quote and could provide and install the cameras within the September construction window; CDW and PC Connection quotes were provided as alternatives with differing prices and lead times. The committee voted unanimously to purchase the camera hardware from CT Comp for up to $9,345.80 per quote 032389.
Rick Daniels presented Nationwide Security Corporation Quote 93641 for door access control proximity readers, JP video intercom door stations and installation at a total price of $16,024.41. Staff said Nationwide committed to delivering and installing equipment within the September construction window if approved; the committee unanimously approved the NSC quote and scope.
Finance Director Robert Grissom gave a brief financing update: although towns previously approved a total project cost of $1,575,000 at referendum, the district sold approximately $1,000,000 in bonds at a 3.64% interest rate to be repaid over 20 years. Grissom said the district reduced total borrowings based on anticipated State reimbursements, which will lower the towns' long-term cost compared with the referendum figure.
Votes and next steps: all motions were approved unanimously; staff will coordinate vendor delivery and installation during the September construction window and continue to report budget and schedule updates to the committee.
