Chaplin presents sidewalk and parking-lot redesign; applies for Phase II to improve accessibility

At the May 8 meeting First Selectman Juan Roman presented revised drawings for the sidewalk project near the library and senior center, noting the town received state funding from a Community Investment Grant. The revised plan adds more greenery in the parking lot, eliminates some spaces immediately in front of the library and senior center, adds center islands and relocates utility poles at no cost to the town.
Roman said the town will apply for a Phase II grant to pave the remainder of the parking lot, add an ADA-accessible ramp to the park, and rebuild the stone-dust track. Commissioner Bob Dubos suggested considering a permanent pavilion at the senior center and noted that such a structure could be an eligible grant project.
In the ZEO report Gigliotti noted two permits were issued this month (a change in daycare ownership on Willimantic Road with new signage and a garage permit on Phoenixville Road). He also reported a drive-by of 811 Phoenixville Road found no zoning violations and that staff will check land records and the condition of the second driveway at 174 Willimantic Road (the original permit required closing the second driveway).
