Chaplin board approves three-year contract with Chaplin Education Association

The Chaplin Elementary School Board of Education unanimously approved a three‑year successor collective bargaining agreement with the Chaplin Education Association at its Dec. 10, 2025 meeting in the school music room.

The approval, moved by board member William Hooper and seconded by board member Gene Boomer, authorizes a contract running from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029 and was adopted with conditions that the contract be signed by the association’s designated officers, that the board chair sign the final contract on behalf of the board, and that the chair coordinate with board counsel to file the fully executed contract with the Town Clerk in accordance with the Teacher’s Negotiations Act.

The board entered executive session earlier in the meeting to discuss strategy and a potential settlement related to the successor agreement and to review attorney documents exempt from disclosure under Connecticut General Statutes §§1‑200(6)(E) and 1‑210(b)(9). The board invited Superintendent Andrew Skarzynski, Director of Finance Jobina Miller and the board’s legal counsel, Attorney Stephen Sedor, into that session.

The contract’s approval was recorded as unanimous. The board delegated to Chair Jaclyn Chancey the authority to finalize signatures and to work with counsel to complete the Town Clerk filing required to make the contract public and effective.

Next steps: the contract must be signed by the designated officers of the Chaplin Education Association and the chair must file the fully executed document with the Town Clerk to complete the process.
