Falls Village Recreation Commission approves line-item increases, sends 2026–27 spending proposal to Board of Selectmen

The Falls Village Recreation Commission on Feb. 24 unanimously approved a series of line-item increases in its proposed 2026–2027 spending plan and voted to submit the package to the Falls Village Board of Selectmen for review.
Chairperson Melissa Lopes called the special meeting to order at 6:24 p.m. at Falls Village Town Hall. Commissioners in attendance, listed in the minutes, were Melissa Lopes, Catherine Wales, Matthew Gallagher, Chris Wadsworth and Lauren Killawee. After reviewing the proposed spending plan, commissioners made and approved motions to raise multiple budget lines; all motions carried by unanimous vote.
Key increases approved included a 15% raise for line-item 4001-101 (pool salaries); a 25% increase for 4001-201 (chemical supplies); a 20% increase for 4001-211 (Special Programs); a 20.19% increase for 4001-213 (Summer Programs); and a 16.67% increase for 4001-WI213 (Winter Programs). The commission also approved 25% increases for line-item 4001-302 (Electric), 4001-352 (Maintenance & Repairs) and 4001-355 (Ground Maintenance). The minutes note the total bottom-line increase across the proposed plan is 14.9%.
Each motion was made and seconded as recorded in the minutes: Melissa Lopes moved the pool salaries increase (seconded by Matthew Gallagher); Lauren Killawee moved the chemical supplies increase (seconded by Catherine Wales); Catherine Wales moved the Special Programs increase (seconded by Matthew Gallagher); Lauren Killawee moved the Summer Programs and Winter Programs increases (both seconded by Matthew Gallagher); Matthew Gallagher moved the Electric and Ground Maintenance increases (the Electric motion seconded by Melissa Lopes; the Ground Maintenance motion seconded by Lauren Killawee); and Lauren Killawee moved the Maintenance & Repairs increase (seconded by Chris Wadsworth). The commission then voted, on a motion by Chairperson Melissa Lopes seconded by Chris Wadsworth, to submit the full FVRC 2026–2027 proposed spending plan to the Board of Selectmen for its review.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. after a motion by Catherine Wales, seconded by Matthew Gallagher. The minutes were respectfully submitted by Catherine Wales. The Board of Selectmen will review the commission’s proposed spending plan; the minutes do not record any final action by the Board of Selectmen or specify next meeting dates.
