The Waterford Board of Education recognized student achievement and spotlighted a recent Young Playwrights festival during the meeting.
Superintendent remarks and school principals introduced Waterford High senior Zach Barry for a Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendent student recognition, highlighting his coursework in biotechnology, participation in Science Bowl, leadership in theater, and musical accomplishments. Quaker Hill student Olivia Batista was named a "Waterford Wonder" for peer leadership and consistent support of classmates.
Middle‑school students involved in the Young Playwrights program described workshops and productions. Two students named Henry and Zoe explained that professionals provided cold reads and critique, and they said the experience of having actors interpret their writing offered valuable feedback and new perspectives for revision.
The board thanked students and staff, and members applauded the student presentations. These recognitions were part of the superintendent’s broader year‑in‑review presentation.
