School committee adds Feb. 26 workshop and approves FY26 budget calendar

The Whittier Regional Vocational Technical School Committee approved the FY26 budget calendar and adopted an amendment to add a budget workshop on Feb. 26 so members would have time to review the detailed budget before the March 12 vote.
Business Manager Miss Cosmus presented the recommended schedule: January executive subcommittee review, March 12 workshop and vote and an April public hearing (April 9). Several committee members asked for a full-committee workshop earlier than March to allow time to review detailed line-item materials; members discussed scheduling and the possibility of staging a presentation and a later vote.
A motion to amend the proposed calendar to add a Feb. 26 budget workshop was moved and seconded and passed on a roll-call vote; the full calendar then passed as amended. Committee members said the additional workshop would allow members who do not attend executive subcommittee meetings to review and digest the budget before the final vote.
The amended calendar retains the required public hearing and two-step budget presentation process described by staff, which includes a presentation to the public followed by the formal vote required by state law.
