The Orange Elementary School Committee voted unanimously on March 19 to adopt a $8,883,071 budget for fiscal year 2027, following a presentation from Dr. Liz that reflected a 2.16% increase over the previous year.
The committee requested at its Feb. 9 meeting that administrators work to reduce the originally proposed increase to about 2 percent. Dr. Liz told the committee the administration complied and presented a revised budget at a public hearing on March 9; that version showed a 2.16% increase and was subsequently presented to the Town of Orange Finance Committee on March 16.
On a motion by Committee member Josefa Scherer, seconded by Committee member Crystal Clarke, members voted to set the FY27 Orange Elementary School budget at $8,883,071. The minutes record the roll call vote as unanimous. The committee’s packet notes that, because Orange Elementary operates as a department of the Town, any adjustments made by the Town could require the committee to revisit and revote the budget at a future meeting (anticipated in April or June).
The committee also set its next meeting for April 13, 2026, and listed descriptions of subcommittees as an item for that agenda. The meeting was called to order by Chair Mallory Ellis at 4:10 p.m. and adjourned at 4:18 p.m. after a motion by Crystal Clarke and a second from Maria Bull.
No public comments were recorded at this meeting.
