Committee approves three policies and superintendent goals; votes at a glance

On motions during the Nov. 18 meeting, the Orange Elementary School Committee voted unanimously to approve three policies and the superintendent’s draft goals. Josefa Scherer moved to approve policies JHD (Exclusions and Exemptions from School Attendance), JIC (Student Discipline) and JICE (Student Publications); the motion was seconded by Yarelyn Ramos-Martinez and passed by unanimous roll call. Frank Hains requested that policy JH (Student Absences) be returned to the subcommittee for further review.
The committee also voted unanimously to approve the superintendent’s draft goals, which the Chair read as: Early Literacy Enhancement; Mathematics Curriculum Enhancement; Improving Budget Literacy (personal practice); and Emergency Preparedness (district goal). Roll calls for these approvals were taken by Chair Mallory Ellis.
In other formal actions, on a motion by Josefa Scherer seconded by Frank Hains the committee unanimously approved the presented journal entries. The committee adjourned at 7:52 p.m. on a unanimous vote. Minutes from Sept. 9, 2024 were also approved earlier in the meeting.
