The Trussville City Council voted to adopt resolutions to abate two separate public nuisances following public hearings.
At 2011 Tut Wilder Drive, code enforcement described complaints that the single-family zoned property appeared to house multiple families, with frequent vehicle activity and vans dropping off occupants. The property owner, who identified himself as Bin, testified that occupants are employees of his restaurant, that several adults and children reside there and that he charges rent. Staff advised that multiple families in a single-family dwelling violate local zoning and that notices had been mailed. After closing the hearing, Councilor Brigh moved and the council adopted Resolution 2024-42 to abate the nuisance; council instructed staff to ensure the order is carried out.
Separately, staff opened a public hearing on 4908 Branchville Road and reported the structure had become unsafe and that city staff had not received a response from the property owner. Photographs had been reviewed and no one appeared to speak at the hearing. Councilor Cook moved for and the council adopted Resolution 2024-43 to abate the nuisance at that address.
Both abatements were adopted by voice vote during the meeting. Council members discussed assigning staff (Mr. Malcol and code enforcement) to carry out compliance and follow-up; the record notes staff involvement but does not specify timelines or cost estimates for remediation.
