The Otis Historical Commission decided unanimously at its May 6 meeting to place an important letter written by Molly Brown in a locked box in the town vault to ensure safekeeping. Celeste Watman said she is researching options for digitizing the archives to preserve and increase access to documents.
Funding and events: Hilary and Tricia agreed to schedule volunteers for the Farmers Market beginning on Memorial Day weekend. The Otis Preservation Trust will sell watercolor maps of Otis as a fundraiser, and members reported approximately $146,000 in the OPT account.
Programming and outreach: Members discussed the Notice Otis lecture series and noted a possible lecture by Rob Hoogs; no June program is scheduled. Peter Cameron said he is researching the cost of QR codes for historic-district signs and has asked the town attorney to review and approve a letter to send to owners of historic properties requesting permission to place signs on their property. Gail Gelburd reported she has a book about Sue Moody in the publisher editing process.
Member note and next meeting: Diane Provenz said she will "step back" from the commission effective June 3, 2025. The commission adjourned at 5:27 p.m. and scheduled its next meeting for June 3, 2025 at 4:30 p.m.
