Trussville honors local coach, proclaims Epilepsy Awareness Month

The Trussville City Council presented two ceremonial proclamations during the meeting.

Councilor Brigh read a proclamation honoring Metro South eighth-grade Coach of the Year Scott Bromley and his coaching staff for an undefeated season, and the council adopted Proclamation 2024-31 by motion. Coach Bromley thanked the council, praised his assistant coaches and players, and accepted the honor with family members in attendance.

Councilor Brigh also read a proclamation declaring November (the transcript records the date as November 24 in the proclamation text) as Epilepsy Awareness Month. A representative from the local epilepsy organization addressed the council to describe services—seizure-first-aid training, statewide board support, and community outreach—and urged residents to increase awareness and support research and treatment. The proclamation text cited statistics presented during the reading (the proclamation states that roughly one in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy and referenced CDC estimates noted in the proclamation of about 54,000 Alabamians with epilepsy, including about 7,500 children). The epilepsy representative said, in part, that “no one lives with epy alone” and described local families participating in outreach and support programs.

Both proclamations were ceremonial and received applause; no policy actions or funding decisions were made as part of the proclamations.
