Otis Historical Commission reviews bank balances, small expenses and grant applications

At the Oct. 8, 2025 meeting the Otis Historical Commission reviewed recent account balances and small budget items and discussed ongoing grant-seeking efforts.
Gail Gelburd, a commission member, reported that at fiscal year-end (June 30) the OPT account held $11,400 and the Wells Fargo account held $14,000. The minutes record that summer fundraising at the Farmer’s Market totaled less than $1,000.
Members reviewed small, immediate expenses recorded for signs ($1,500), museum supplies ($300), a Farmer’s Market canopy ($250) and OHC business cards ($500). The commission also noted a longer-term budget need of $20,000 to paint the East Otis schoolhouse, an item flagged for next year’s budget planning.
On grants, Gail Gelburd and Celeste Watman (working with Cathy Bezzozo and Judi Greiman) reported researching and applying for several funding sources, including the Washington Trust grant, the Massachusetts Cultural Commission grant, the Bolger Foundation grant and a possible Feigenbaum grant.
The minutes do not specify which line items, if any, will cover upcoming preservation work; several projects were described as contingent on grant outcomes or additional budget planning.
