Otis ZBA approves minutes, introduces alternate-member candidate and discusses hybrid meetings

At its Aug. 4 meeting the Otis ZBA approved minutes from June 2, introduced Michele Zalot as a candidate for an alternate member (to appear before the Selectboard on Aug. 12), discussed hybrid vs. in-person meeting formats and set the next meeting for Sept. 2; the meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
The Otis Zoning Board of Appeals took several administrative actions and discussed meeting logistics at its Aug. 4 session.
The board voted unanimously to approve the June 2, 2025 minutes on a motion by Jim Kauffman, seconded by Wayne Woczyna. Chair Travis Ward introduced Michele Zalot, a Tolland Road resident, as a candidate for the Alternate Board Member opening; Ward said she will appear before the Selectboard on Aug. 12 for consideration.
Board members debated whether to hold future meetings in-person, hybrid or continue remote options. Gordon Middleton and Ward said in-person meetings are preferable for the public; RoseAnn DeRupo and others said hybrid meetings help maintain volunteer participation but require a quorum to be physically present when in-person is required. Ward said he will clarify quorum requirements with town leadership.
Building Inspector Larry Gould reported there was nothing pending for the September meeting. The board set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025. On a motion by Terry Gould, seconded by Jim Kauffman, the board adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
