Mayor says Garfield statue is arriving and a proposed fire district will go to township trustees

Mayor Haynam updated the council that the Garfield statue is expected to arrive this year. Council member Ed Frato-Sweeney moved, and Suzann Bennett seconded, a motion to use storage in the municipal garage and to allow use of village water during the statue’s relocation; the motion passed 5-0.
Haynam also presented a proposal for a fire district that originated from recent meetings between the village and the township. Chief Marotta is scheduled to present that proposal to the township trustees. The township asked for an extension to the initial contract dismissal date; the requested extension date is Aug. 17.
Other administrative items noted by Village Administrator Steve Schuller included cemetery preparation for Memorial Day, summer internships starting as schools let out, a small water leak on Kenyon Drive, and a posted job opening for an assistant village administrator. The council voted 5-0 to retain James McGee as a contract employee to continue work for the village.
