Otis Planning Board approves July minutes, reviews comparative fees and flags Affordable Home Act for study

The Otis Planning Board met Aug. 12, 2024, and unanimously approved the minutes from its July 8 meeting. Chair Mark Anthony presided; the meeting opened at 7:04 p.m. and adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
Members continued a discussion of the town's permit fee schedules after a presentation by Ross Knowles comparing Otis fees with those in Monterey, Tolland, Blandford and Sandisfield. Knowles said Otis's fees are on the low side and noted that other towns attach different requirements to Forms A, B and C. Christina (staff) was asked to contact towns that do not post fee information online and report back to the board.
Board members also identified the Affordable Home Act as an item that may apply to Otis but said they first need to review the program guidelines before proceeding. The board did not make a determination on eligibility or action under the Act at this meeting.
The board adjusted its October schedule because Columbus Day falls on the second Monday; members agreed to hold the October meeting on Monday, Oct. 28. The meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
Actions taken at the meeting were procedural: the board approved the July 8 minutes and voted to adjourn. No ordinances, contracts or formal policy actions were proposed or adopted.
