District prepares for DESE targeted monitoring and reports FY25 E&D projection

Superintendent Timothy Lee informed the School Committee on Dec. 1 that the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) will conduct a three-year targeted monitoring review covering special education, Section 504 and civil-rights compliance. Lee said the review will span the school year and that staff will present findings once the DESE report is available.
As part of the financial update, finance presenter Carol Sauerhoefer said the district expects to certify about $118,000 in excess E&D for FY25 and is verifying that figure with Jane Gleason and representatives from TMS. Sauerhoefer outlined the certification process and explained E&D (excess and deficiency) context to committee members.
The committee was advised that the District Curriculum Accommodation Plan (DCAP) would be presented at the recommendation of DESE auditors; the presentation does not require formal committee action but is intended to clarify accommodations and supports for students.
