Committee leans toward Lee Youth Organization to run aftercare program

The Farmington River Regional School District School Committee reviewed results of an Extended Day (aftercare) survey on Dec. 1 and expressed a preference for pursuing the Lee Youth Organization (LYA) to provide aftercare services, citing LYA’s ties to the local high school and existing experience.
Committee members discussed survey results showing demand across age groups and noted that cost sensitivity for families will require the district to consider scholarships or other offset strategies. Committee members generally agreed both program models could be viable, but several members favored LYA because of its local connections to Lee Memorial High School and the potential to engage district staff.
Superintendent Timothy Lee was asked to continue conversations with LYA, to involve district staff including Amy Maxton and Ms. Olds in the transition, and to return with implementation details and licensing steps with the goal of launching at the start of the next school year.
