Resident raises risk of garage loss from backups at Alden Street; township to explore DEP permit

During public comment at the June 9 study session, resident Bonnie VanNort told the board she believes recurrent water backups from Mill Run and Thurston Run threaten her back garage at 20810 Alden Street and could harm her property value.
VanNort said PennDOT had done prior work on Alden Street and would be returning to perform additional right-of-way drainage work. Supervisors John Shartle and Jordan reviewed past emergency and DEP-permitted work on the runs; Secretary/Treasurer Jill Dunlap said there have been multiple meetings about the issue over the past 20 years and suggested it would be worth investigating and applying for a General Maintenance Permit with the Department of Environmental Protection. Supervisor Bovard said the township would try to help identify a solution.
No formal action or vote was taken at the study session; staff indicated further investigation and potential permitting will be pursued as next steps.
